First Base Proverbs 28:26 Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered. (ESV)
Second Base Scripture portrays fools as those who have rejected God and his ways and are unable or unwilling to appreciate the wisdom of knowing and obeying him. (Source: Dictionary of Bible Themes)
Third Base Jelly legs: When a batter is fooled by a pitch (normally an off-speed or curve ball) he may swing too soon or too late. Sometimes this causes him to lose his balance and good batting stance which results in him falling down. (Source: Wikipedia)
Home Plate A batter may feel like a fool when he misses a pitch that completely bamboozles him. Only his pride is hurt because he missed the ball so badly. Many times he will get up dust himself off and hit the next pitch for a home run. Not so with the fool described all throughout the Book of Proverbs. All through the ages God has called and men have refused to heed His call. (Prov 1:20-29) I love the imagery of verse 20; “Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the markets she raises her voice.” Still the fool will only trust in himself because he hates knowledge and does not fear the Lord (vs. 29). Prov 12:15 says ““The way of the fool is right in his own eyes, But a wise man is he who listens to counsel.” The fool thinks he knows it all believing he is a self-made man, wise in all his own ways. Do you rely on your own wisdom and knowledge to solve the problems you face day to day? Do you look to financial and business advisors before praying and asking God to show you the path to take? Too many times we act foolishly and only after we get into a jam do we remember to call on God. The word of the Lord says this is an unwise way to live. Verse 7 of chapter 1 tells us “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. I encourage you this day to get up, dust yourself off, and serve the Lord with all your heart and soul. Proverbs 16:9 says “A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.” So join me and let’s “Be Intentional.” Look to the Lord for his wisdom and his knowledge and we will be blessed.
Final Out Most gracious heavenly Father, may I stop and shake myself to insure I am trusting in you with all my heart and all my soul so that I will not lean on my own understanding which is as filthy rags before you. I acknowledge you today and I am listening so to hear wisdom as she raises her voice in the streets and the market place. As I plan my day, I want my steps to be ordered by you Oh Lord so that the path I take is directed and ordered by you. (Prov 3:5-6). As the Apostle Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 4:10 Lord let me be a fool for Christ’s sake. For it is in your holy name I pray. AMEN
