Blessed to Bless
What the heck am I doing here? It’s been a cool process. Thanks, God.
I am currently beginning my fifth year studying Landscape Architecture at Texas A&M University.
Currently I anticipate two things: it’s going to be a ton of fun, and it’s going to be a ton of work.
Over three years ago the Lord put on my heart to pursue two things– landscape architecture and the unfinished work of reaching all people with the Gospel of Jesus. At the time they felt like opposites. As it turns out, they don’t have to be!
Two years ago the Lord placed me in an internship that was nothing short of an answered prayer. My boss, Fred Billings, is the owner of a landscape growing and design company and just so happens to also be the director of an international sports ministry.
Over seven years ago, he and his daughter Brittney founded Athletic International Missions, an organization passionate about using sports to spread the Gospel and shape communities. Currently they are hosting camps in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Guatemala, and Cuba.
In my first week on the job I remember Fred bringing up a few of his long term aspirations for the organization. What do you know that he had it on his heart to use architecture design as a supportive ministry to the work of the Lord in some of those poorest communities!
We sat in the truck wondering if we could use our design and agriculture talents to train and disciple nationals into opportunities that could support the work of God anywhere in the world? What if those trained could in turn support their families? Their churches? Missions?
