Pray and Read Scripture Together: Update 3
The trade school just finished its first week and I am very thankful for how things turned out. Day one, we had about six guys, but most were a casual three hours late. It didn’t seem like to big of a deal to them, but hopefully that will change.
Each day was a struggle; young men here are not too often forced to work very hard. They struggle with (as does any boy learning to be a man) work intensity, focus, responsibility, and commitment. How awesome it was to get to Friday and see such progress already though!
We pray and read scripture together first thing in the morning. Then we have work projects and class times throughout the rest of the morning. Currently we are laying the ground work for a 15-foot concrete bridge over our stream. They have enjoyed my lessons so far on creative thought, work success, and basics on architectural drawings. We have six committed guys in this first round of students, and they are catching on quickly. It’s fun to reveal the honor and pride that comes with being a man of character, a hard worker, and someone who is dependable.
I have preached a couple more times in some very rural churches. These gatherings of believers are so inspiring and encouraging to me. I continue to feel very humbled to meet such faithful brothers and sisters. Our last meeting had no electricity, so five candles and flash light did the trick.
You start to realize what things are important and what things are not!
